What is Global Medical Brigades?
Global Brigades is an international, secular, student-operated, volunteer organization whose mission is to provide sustained development to under-served communities throughout the world. The organization works in 9 different categories of development, one of which is medical.
Along with affiliate groups at other distinguished universities, our SBU team recruits student volunteers and medical professionals, gathers medicines and supplies, and travels overseas to perform medical brigades. Between 2008 and 2009, more than 4,000 volunteers from 110 university chapters in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Ireland traveled to provide health and economic development solutions to more than 50,000 beneficiaries through our teams in Panama and Honduras. A Global Brigades Success StoryIn 2012, Global Brigades completed all major infrastructural and Brigades-specific projects in the community of Zurzular. Global Brigades will now provide a supportive role in the community, by conducting follow ups, community visits, educational activities, and additional trainings to ensure that projects continue to operate smoothly and that Zurzular has the support it needs to perpetuate programs locally.
